An adaptation of one of the first novels I would probably describe as feminist in nature. Not sure what the hate is all about for this movie. Strong cast (Franco = meh), decent adaptation of the novel story-wise, compelling narrative for the most part.

The split-screen stuff was bad in a few parts (especially at the beginning), but it was used more sparingly as the film progressed and when it was utilized later, it was done well. One big issue a general audience would have with this film is the usage of Faulkner's obtuse metaphorical writing; for example, "My mother is a fish.

" I had to dissect the meaning for a bit to really understand it; I doubt most would even bother. Overall, for the bit of money I spent on it, I'd say it was worth my time.
