Review of Amistad (1997) by Harriet O — 24 Jul 2008
A movie that's going to stay with me for a long time. I remembered the feelings that I felt when I was at the African-American museum in Detroit and I cried, felt ashamed over my country's history during the slavetrade.
I have been fearing the moment of watching this movie because I get so disturbed by the ordeal the African-American people have been through and the obstacles they are still facing. I feel guilt, love, shame and try to imagine the fear of not knowing what will happen, why and where the journey will end. I urge you to see it and to try to put yourself in the history if you can.
I know that my imagination only stretches so far but I am willing to try and I will continue to keep the African-American people's struggle, honour and strength high and try to treat the people I meet in my life the best way I know how.
If you haven't seen it - please take the time and do so.
