Review of American Scary (2006) by Larry W — 24 May 2010
While it does serve to introduce fans to a number of little-known horror hosts, it also fails to explain or capitalize on the appeal of the greats. Zacherley is the only significant host to get any real screen time, more time is spent on Ghoulardi's namesakes than the fantastic and unique host himself and they didn't even bother to interview Elvira (the most successful of all time).
More disappointing is the fact that the whole thing amounts to a giant mess of quick edits that fails to build narrative and is really quite a bit less than the sum of its parts. Use of b-roll is also conspicuously limited, given the amazing visuals they had to work with.
