Review of Allegro non troppo (1976) by Ryan V — 13 Feb 2012
It's easy to classify this Italian film as a lampoon of Fantasia, but it has so many beautiful moments of its own that the whole thing transcends simple parody. The live action sequences replace Fantasia's stuffy intros with segments of manic, slapsticky ridiculousness.
The animation, although not on the same plateau of the aforementioned Disney film, is an evocative marvel of storytelling. Allegro non Troppo is often funny, occasionally touching, and it has my highest recommendation.
