Review of All the King's Men (1999) by A.d. L — 04 Feb 2008
About two thirds of the way through this wonderful film that was universally panned here in the States (gee, I wonder why!) I realised that just as with John Edwards' brilliant but thwarted Presidential campaign, the very people this should be speaking directly to will never see it or hear the message. The "hicks" the Huey Long character speaks of and for so eloquently are too busy watching reality shows and similar Hollywood shite to ever hear the rallying call or recognise a saviour in their midst.
Oh well.
Fantastic cast, could have done with some actual Southerners in the line-up to reel the accents in at times, though. Hats off to Hopkins for not even attempting an old monied Louisiana drawl!
