Review of A Wrinkle in Time (2003) by Melissa W — 22 Apr 2011
Loved this book as a kid. My kids are watching it on TV now and it is such an awful version. I hope if it ever gets re-made they stay more faithful to the book - including the cold war feel to it and the sense that Meg and her family are part of an emerging world in which women can be intelligent and professional scientists.
I think that a big part of what went wrong with this production is that they attempted to "update" it. I think it resonates with contemporary audiences, but it does so through its themes. Changing the story to make it "contemporary" ruined it if you ask me.
