Review of A Love Affair: The Eleanor and Lou Gehrig Story (1978) by Jay N — 05 Dec 2010
Superlative performances from the two leads highlight this fine drama of the relationship and deep love between the Gehrigs. Not to take anything away from Pride of the Yankees or Teresa Wright's wonderful performance but Blythe Danner's Eleanor is presented as a much more flesh and blood woman, sometimes thorny and tough but always there for the man who meant the most to her as he was for her.
Her last scene with him is a master class in expert acting. It will tear at your heart.
