Review of A Fishy Story (1989) by Alex S — 21 Jan 2013
I like Kenny Bee and Maggie Cheung, and the concept of smashing the romance between a would-be taxi-owner and would-be actress neighbors and their capitalist dreams against the strum and chaos of violent socialist protests in 1960s Hong Kong is certainly interesting.
Too bad, the directing is all over the place, making the comedy shrill and the drama ridiculous-- Bee and Cheung seem perplexed at the tone the movie aims for in any given scene and eventually give up and tune their performances to "yell".
