Review of '71 (2014) by Jesse M — 21 Apr 2016
One forgets how awful the UK conflicts of the 70's were and this film is a stark reminder.
A taught story that is well handled by French director Yann Demange, this ranks up there with other modern-day war and conflict films from Band Of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan to Black Hawk Down, The Hurt Locker or Zero Dark Thirty. It's a nerve racking and at times a frightening film, but it a story that needs to be told. The Irish Conflict wasn't that long ago. There are lessons to be learned from how it was eventually handled and a peace was eventually wrought out.
Believe the hype, it's an excellent film and worth watching.
