Review of 1941 (1979) by Anthony C — 28 May 2009
An underrated gem, no doubt.
Certainly not Spielberg's worst movie. Whoever says that is a retard (yes, they are developmentally disabled).
It's supposed to be nothing but explosions, screaming, and pandemonium. That's what the fucking *movie* is all about. If you misunderstand that, you're not allowed to watch movies ever again.
Anyway, it follows like a billion different characters over the course of one night as Hell.... zapops (?) in Los Angeles, because all these characters think Japan's navy is about to "blow the shit out of something big".
And it's hilarious. It's hilarious in so many subtle, yet bombastic ways. Everyone's having fun here, and the cast is amazing.
It's the type of movie you pop in, watch, and realize how dementedly genius it actually is.
Excellent. If you hate, go watch Pearl Harbor, which is essentially a remake of this movie, except it takes itself seriously. It even has Dan Aykroyd.
