Review of Zatoichi's Vengeance (1966) by Steve W — 25 Aug 2009
Returns to a more familiar story for our blind hero. This is both comfortably recognizable and disappointingly unoriginal. Zatoichi is given some thinking to do by a blind companion, but this isn't explored in as great detail as I would have liked.
It's nice to see Zatoichi contemplating the end of his murderous ways, but it never manages to convince that this will be the end. As such the story often seems futile. Katsu is again brilliant and like any Zatoichi film, it's simply fun to watch a quality story that fills you with nostalgia.
