Review of Zabriskie Point (1970) by Tyman B — 05 Sep 2008
Antonioni tackles the north American 1960's counter culture with typically stylish and arresting results. Plot is not half as important as discourse and the films is famous for its lengthy shots as well as revolutionary student discussions.
Idealistic? Of course, but there's nothing wrong with that when faced with cultural hegemony of the military industrial complex white male capitalism. The finale is often spoke of for its hypnotic photography and use of Pink Floyd but Daria is killing her parents when she blows up the house.
If that's not an indictment of the bourgeois family set up then I don't know what is. As much a celebration of youth as it is a dissection of its naivety and the failings of the authoritarian left.
