Review of Yellowstone Kelly (1959) by Allan C — 18 Sep 2015
Average western from journeyman director Gordon Douglas. Clint Walker plays the titular character who finds himself caught between the cavalry and the a group of natives during an uprising, and tries to keep the peace.
I've always kind of liked Walker, despite his wooden acting style, and always thought he'd have been perfectly cast as Frank Castle AKA The Punisher. Claude Akins and Warren Oates also appear in the film, which was written by the usually reliable Burt Kennedy.
One interesting bit of trivia, this movie was supposed to be directed by John Ford with John Wayne in the main role but Ford and Wayne chose to produce "The Horse Soldiers" instead. I can't help but think that their version would have been much better, and also probably better than "The Horse Solders," which is think is one of Ford's weaker films.
