Review of Yakuza Apocalypse (2015) by Giorgos T — 23 Jun 2017
A typical Miike film, and thats a great thing! The first 20 min is standard Yakuza stuff, but once the first Villain is introduced its off to the races with full blown absurdity. This is a essentially live action cartoon.
The main bad guy could be too ridiculous for some, but I thought they sold it perfectly. I found him to be terrifying, and hilarious. This movie had me laughing out loud several times. Particularly the scene where the "frogman" has to negotiate a steep set of stairs after kicking some ass was nice.
One of the most insanely creative movies Ive seen in a long time. I hope they make a sequel.
