Review of Wind Walkers (2015) by John T — 26 Oct 2015
Wind Walkers is an interesting horror movie, in that it doesn't rely too much on gore to scare. Yes, there are gory scenes but most of the frights generated is in the "what will happen next?" mode.
The movie has a strong cast: Rudy Youngblood, of Apocolypto fame, again shows his acting "chops" (inside joke) and Zane Holtz has a definite Michael-Shannon-esque moodiness and menace.
Set in the Everglades, the movie follows a returning war vet and his friends as they go hunting in the wilderness. The truly intense interaction between the actors is what helps build suspense. The cast is quite stellar, and the writing holds it all together while the plot unfolds.
All in all, this was a fresh take on the horror genre, with a great cast and writing/direction by Russell Friedenberg. Very worth watching!
