Review of Wieners (2008) by Jocelyn F — 31 Jan 2009
Wieners is a DTV road trip comedy about a guy who gets belittled by a Dr. Phil clone (played by Darrell Hammond) and dumped by his girlfriend. Depressed, his two friends, Zachary Levi (Spiral, TV show Chuck) and Kenan Thompson (TV's Kenan & Kel, SNL) take him on a road trip to give away free hot dogs all across the states until they get to California so they can kick the Dr.
Phil guy's ass. Naturally, wild shenanigans ensue. While most of this is clearly low-brow and silly, there are a lot of quasi-funny moments in this film. Jenny McCarthy has a small but amusing role as the guys' former hot teacher who's not-so-hot years later.
Her small part is NOWHERE near as hilarious as former Denver Bronco Bill Romanowski in the scene-stealing gay cowboy moment. That part was worth an entire star by itself! Overall, not too bad for DTV comedy.
