Review of Whole New Thing (2005) by Damien K — 29 Aug 2009
It always strange to see movies where kids who just hit puberty start trying to seduce adults WAY too old for them, even though the concept is completely believable and pretty realistic. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who had crushes on and fantasies about adults more than twice my age when I was 13.
It is even stranger watching fictional characters in which the kid seems more mature than any of the adults, but if you think about it, it's also not a great stretch of the imagination when applied to reality as well.
Aaron Webber does a great job of playing the son of ultra liberals, who is extremely intelligent and yet so naive to the ways of the world. Emerson is witty, clever and idealistic, but with little comprehension of consequences.
This is another one of those films that I am too familiar with the true life counter parts that they represent.
