Whale Rider is a contemporary story of love, rejection and triumph as a young girl fights to fulfill her destiny. It is about culture and traditions, but it is also about the power within and the calling some persons have.
The most important lesson I get from this movie, is that we should keep our traditions and beliefs, but in the same time adapt them to our current reality, because changing does not mean giving up, it means developing into something better.
Instead of letting cultures die, because of their unsuitability with modern beliefs, they should speak the language of today, telling the story of the past.
