Fascinating black-and-white wartime propaganda film with some brilliant cinematography and some genuinely edgy and shocking moments. Perhaps because no English village has been invaded (except by tourists and yuppies.
..) since 1066, the violation seems all the more nightmarish. In some ways very much of its [war]time, in others terrifyingly universal.
