Review of Weekend (2011) by Callum M — 06 Nov 2012
A masterpiece, a landmark for queer cinema; the film is not an earnest coming-out story, nor is it a sex-filled fabulous extravaganza, but is a fascinating exploration of two men and their short lived, intense relationship.
Exploring themes of urban sexuality and universal love, Andrew Haigh's film does the bravest thing of all thing, and defies convention; it is not a gay film, it is a film about gay men, and that is a difference to be celebrated, especially in a film as beautiful as this.
