Review of Waste Land (2010) by George Q — 18 Mar 2011
Vic Muniz is an amazingly talented artist who with help from the catadores from Jardim Gramacho, create the most beautiful images from trash. The individuals we meet in the documentary are really wonderful people and you can't help but root for them to succeed and hopefully they have been able to escape the Jardim.
Though there is no shame in being a catadore which is honest work, unlike some other occupations that confront each one of them everyday. Though this movie speaks volumes about how wasteful humans are, it is not preachy and I enjoyed that fact that this it was a Brazilian native helping his own people out and not some European or someone from the states.
