Review of Vincere (2009) by Elliott F — 10 Jan 2011
Italian translation = "WIN".
This fine foreign film entry from Italy focuses on the sordid relationship a young Benito Mussolino had with Ida Dalser. He has a son with her, his first child, then casts them aside to focus on his rise to power. This intense film stays firmly focused on the spurned Ida Dalser (an Oscar-worthy performance by Giovanna Mezzogiorno) and covers the period from pre-WWI up to the on-set of WWII.
Ida Dalser is eventually taken by Mussolini's henchman and placed in an insane asylum. Her son is raised on his own and not acknowledged ever as Mussolini's first-born son by anyone but his own mother. Regretably, both come to tragic ends. Well done!
