Review of Vincent & Theo (1990) by Luciano J — 14 Aug 2009
Altman's impressionist approach allows "Vincent and Theo" to transcend the trappings of the biopic, but prevents it from fully delving into the life of Vincent van Gogh. Luckily the assured direction and Tim Roth's fascinating performance lend coherence to the somewhat scattershot narrative.
Gabriel Yared's tense and mysterious score is also noteworthy and suggests a discordant world beneath the natural surface of the film.
