Review of Valmont (1989) by Luis O — 14 Jul 2012
Director Milos Forman, who has two Best Picture & two Best Director Oscars to boast, has an eye, a knack & a flare for 18th century costumeers. This one in particular stands out for its lavish wardrobe & grandiose decorum almost as much as its depictions of seduction, sexual intrigue & upper crust abasement.
It is easy to become tangled in Merteuil & Valmont's web of deception & thrown by the wavering of their accents but it's an engaging one to become ensnared in after all.
