Review of Unknown Pleasures (2002) by Alex B — 09 Jan 2008
Not a bad film, but far from a masterpiece. The tale is harrowing and the disillusionment of the characters in their inescapable situation was poignant. However, the film does get a little dull and while the acting was natural it lacked some believability.
Nevertheless, the film is well shot by a handheld, in a similar vein as Gummo, and was different from the typical run of the mill films I've seen from China. Certainly a unknown pleasure to watch, and certainly a film that most will find dull and lackluster.
