Review of Under the Sun (2015) by N T — 22 Sep 2016
A surprisingly revealing and impactful look at the North Korean regime. Daily exercise routines, an army of indoctrinated children, and lessons composed of pure propaganda deifying the country's founder paint an eery picture of Orwellian communism ripped straight from the pages of "1984." The North Korean handlers did well at editing some footage but what the film makers were able to retain pulls back a 21st century iron curtain revealing an uncanny valley with its very own Wizard of Oz.
I am typically either impressed and impacted by a documentary or disappointed by how the subject matter is handled; In the case of "Under The Sun" I experienced the former with none of the latter, 5/5.
