Review of Umberto D. (1952) by Jonathan T — 07 Nov 2007
This was filmed with random people chosen off the street. The heartbreaking story of an aging Roman called Umberto and his dog Flike that's fallen behind on his rent and is on the verge of being evicted.
The uncaring attitude of post-ww2 Italy toward the elderly ends up becoming a sad study of despair and disregard that focuses on the optimism of hope. Some people consider it one of the best films ever made.
