Review of True Romance (1993) by John M — 14 Jul 2011
Tarantino writing and Tony Scott direction, are you freaking kidding me? Don't be fooled by the title, this movie is vi-o-lent. It is your typical boy-meets-girl romance... only the girl is a call girl who has a cocaine-dealing pimp named Drexl.
And can you say all-star cast? Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken... If this movie was only the conversation between Hopper and Walken, this movie would be worth watching, but you also have a kickass movie surrounding it.
You can definitely tell that Tarantino wrote the screenplay; it is filled with talks of movies and pop culture. My only complaint is the overkill on the xylophone score, but I have to admit, this being the second time watching it, I found myself smiling every time it came on.
