Review of Trash Humpers (2010) by Ladd W — 22 Mar 2011
A rotten eulogy for the American dream, or what's left of it, told as a waking nightmare. Like Werner Herzog, whose "Even Dwarves Started Small" is probably the closest comparison I can draw to Trash Humpers, there's a sense of mania about it.
Chaos is loosed, and the results are insane, jaw-dropping, and even funny in parts. Take it or leave it, Harmony Korine's vision is unique, disturbed, and unsettling. He's not an easy filmmaker to digest, but perhaps that's the point - or is there one at all? Maybe that's the point.
Make it. Don't fake it.
