Review of Tiny Furniture (2010) by Phillipé S — 24 Jul 2012
An early twenties crisis film, by the creator of the witty series GIRLS on HBO. Poor Aura, she has no idea what to do after living in Ohio after finishing a film theory degree and returning to the big city, New York.
Aura has very low self-esteem, and is willing to do things which she resents. She can get by with a little help from her hipster friends, and tolerate her busy artsy mother and over-achieving sister, but not for too long.
I'm sure many young college grads will easily sympathize with this character. It is shot well, even if the acting is a bit wooden. There are some genuinely funny moments. Yea it can be sappy at times, but at least it is mostly interesting.
