Review of The Yellow Sea (2010) by James-Masaki R — 23 May 2012
Na Hong-Jin took the Korean revenge genre to extremes with his debut "The Chaser", and outdoes it even further with the highly entertaining, and extremely vicious "The Yellow Sea". The Joseunjok population of Manchuria is little known outside of Manchuria or Korea, but this film brings the culture and the cultural differences to light, showing the ethnic divide and discrimination, the very dangerous and illegal crossing of the Yellow Sea to South Korea, but most of all, the peril of the taxi driver who is hired to kill someone and bring back his thumb as proof of the kill.
But when things don't go according to plan, he is left all on his own...
