Review of The Yellow Birds (2018) by Roger G — 23 Dec 2018
Screenplay: lacking. Direction: confusing. Continuity: senseless. Acting: fair. There are probably numerous ways to tell this story, but, the method chosen for this one seemed inappropriate. Where are we with this war? Does anyone come home without a ton of mental problems? Too many flashbacks without enough rationale for them.
Are all soldiers mom's unable to cope with the reality of the aftermath of their son's experience in the military? It seems the mental stability of the U.S. soldier is lacking in some way before their military experience and definitely afterward.
This film is confusing at best and did not delivery its intended message -- whatever that was.
