Review of The Witch (2016) by Reese J — 20 Jan 2017
BEST FILM OF 2016. It's not Hostel, it's not Insidious which is what a lot of people expected and both groups were sincerely disappointed. These people likely owned all 7 Saw movies, when the more enlightened of that group stopped after Saw III.
The Witch is basically what Arthur Miller should have written back when he was churning out The Crucible. Many of the same themes are covered and Eggers takes you down a much darker path Miller was too afraid to take.
Robert Eggers shows no fear or remorse for his characters' intentions, willing to push his actors to places they didn't think existed.
