Review of The Way of the Gun (2000) by Carl M — 13 Jul 2007
Christopher McQuarrie's underrated follow up to the, I feel, overrated 'The Usual Suspects' has a better script, is funnier, bloodier, and overall a better film.
The technical details that McQuarrie put in the film are a great respite from the flock of inaccurate gunfights and chase scenes (that gun only fires 15 shots...you actually have to reload your gun; smart criminals don't run wild through the streets, bringing more attention to themselves, they carefully try to outwit their opponents [police, bodyguards, etc.]).
Benicio Del Toro and Ryan Phillippe give standout performances alongside the rest of the great cast.
If you thought The Usual Suspects was great, just wait 'til you see this film.
The opening scene is classic!
