Review of The Virginity Hit (2010) by Brett A — 03 Feb 2011
Imagine 'Superbad' or 'American Pie' through a 'Blair Witch' lens, and you might get a taste for this ruder-than-rude teen boy-loses-his-virginity comedy. It's a stoner comedy mixed with a horny teen flick, with plenty of rowdy behavior and no-holds-barred raunch, all taking place in a hedonistic teen New Orleans.
In that respect, this could be seen as a horror film for parents--teens wallowing in bong hits, porn, sex, underage drinking and strip club visits (even though this is scripted). The young unknown cast does a solid job.
The faux-documentary texture allows for the odd sweet moment to peek through amidst the lowbrow antic, mostly thanks to the parents in the tale. It doesn't really cover any new ground in its relentless pursuit of lowbrow laughs, and the novelty of this style of filmmaking wore off long ago.
But there are enough big laughs to merit a recommendation, a peek into the lives of a group of psuedo-'Superbad/American Pie' teens, not as funny as the former, not as annoying as the latter.
