Review of The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle (1939) by John R — 09 Sep 2007
The last and least effective of the Astaire/Rogers musicals at RKO. This is a traditional Hollywood bio-pic rather than a musical -- it's the story of the Castles, the pre WWI dance team that swept the country with their "Castle Walk.
" The musical numbers here are just attempts to portray the Castles dancing, as opposed to the usual concept of songs that reflect the inner feelings of the characters. This is the only Fred/Ginger RKO musical I really can't recommend.
