Review of The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978) by Håvard P — 02 May 2009
Yeah, of course, it was a bad idea, but it's the most wonderful bad idea in the history of television behind the Olympic Triplecast debacle of 1992, Michael Flatterly's WTF Lord of the Dance clogging at the 1997 Oscars and those Where's Herb? Burger King commercials.
Everything is wrong with this show. The sets look cheesy. The first 10 minutes is in wookie speak. There's Jefferson Starship, Art Carney doing his Ed Norton schtick. Harvey Korman as a Julia Childs type of cook with multiple arms.
"Stir! Whip! Stir! Whip! Whip! Whip! Stir!" But it's so bad, it's good. It's even better if you have a copy with all the 1978 TV commercials. How can people say this is so bad, but The Phantom Menace was better or Hayden Christensen as Manakin Skywalker.
I love this program.
