Review of The Spectacular Now (2013) by Eric H — 21 Dec 2013

I thought this was a particularly enchanting film, really sweet, really heartfelt, and it hits home its themes pretty well. I think the two leads are pretty fantastic in this, and Woodley has an extremely natural charm and presence that keeps alluring me in films (like The Descendants two years ago).

Miles Teller surprised me, I never thought he'd be capable of leading a film like this but he makes everything extremely believable. I sort of wish Woodley's character had been equally important, or maybe show her more, but as it is, this is a pretty great little film.

This is a step up from Smashed (which was still good) and I think Ponsoldt has a very bright future ahead of him.
