Review of The Searchers (1956) by Rud K — 12 Jan 2009
What's the fuzz about this movie - one of the best western ever? - and that damn John Wayne everyone talks about.
Goddamn my thoughts was knocked down - HARD!
Look at this beauty. So many beautyful shots by Winton Hoch (all the landscapes in the dessert - but the first and last scene: looking from the inside of a house out to west. B E A U T I F U L). You actually wanna be there and just look at the movie as it rolls. The music as well is awesome. Oldschool fascinating and really thrillingly score by Steiner! But the man on the right spot is for sure Wayne. How do you portray a murder, racist and insane man and still giving the audience sympathy to the man? You give him Waynes acting!
John Ford, I wanna see another masterpiece: Stagecoach, The Grapes of Wrath, How Green Was My Wally or Rio Grande? I'll be there soon.
