Review of The Scouting Book for Boys (2010) by John K — 28 Mar 2010
Romanticised coming of age stories, as promised by the opening shot, are nothing new, but this movie subtly and gradually became darker and darker as it went on. The tone was perfectly judged throughout, ensuring the movie stayed one step ahead of the audience.
The performances were excellent, but this film lived and died on the central pairing and both 'kids' were superb. The atmosphere was most vividly created by some outstanding cinematography and the tight direction ensured the film never put a foot wrong.
