Review of The Princess Blade (2001) by James K — 02 Feb 2009
I like female assassin movies, by default, I think. They're not always empowering, but they're usually interesting, given that they're depicted from a 'different' perspective than 'usual'.
This movie, I found to be quite good - it was beautiful, yet sad, and the cinematography was lovely. (Not as beautiful as something like House of Flying Daggers, but pretty enough.) Yumiko Shaku does very well at making Princess Yuki appeared not entirely cold, but emotionally detached.
