Review of The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) by Gavin D — 20 Oct 2013
The Place Beyond the Pines is a modern day Genesis story, where the actions of the character's fathers, and their fathers before them, have defined and have helped to define the choices of the entire bloodline.
This central theme of trying to escape one's fate while unwittingly running towards it is beautifully illustrated through the lives of the people in the film. Though the events that happen are often on a day to day basis, we understand that what is going on in front of us is eternal.
Derek Cianfrance has taken his directing skills to a higher plane than we saw previously in Blue Valentine, and the end result is dynamite. An amazing film.
