One of my favourite westerns. Eastwood wanted to show the native Indian as a human being rather than just a target, hence the inspired casting of Chief Dan George and the strong role of the Commanche Chief "there is iron in your words".
The gunfighting scenes are quite original too, rather clumsy and different from the stylised fights in old Hollywood westerns, and lacking the over dramatisation favoured by Leone in the spaghetti westerns.
Great quotes e.g "there's three kinds of suns in Kansas: sunshine, sunflowers and sons a bitches".
