Review of The Music of Chance (1993) by James M — 29 Jan 2008
Still not 100% sure why this is my all time favourite film, as with classics such as 12 angry men, the action contains only a handful of actors. James Spader is perfectly placed as the no hoper gambler with a confident shine only he could pull off.
It is a haunting examination of two mens desire to achieve and create in the face of imprisonment, the relationship between Ptinkin and Spader is believable and intense. All the characters play with integrity and soul right down to the sean penn bit part.
