Review of The Mummy's Curse (1944) by Tristan D — 01 Jul 2009
Inexplicably, the original Mummy series skips from New England swamps to Louisiana bayou...and many years later. If you actually followed the timeline of these movies, this would take part around the year 2000! What is most interesting about this film is an early and very beautiful appearance by Virginia Christine (later to go on to fame as Mrs.
Olsen, the Folger's Coffee lady in commercials for many years). Otherwise, the plot had long since become derivative. The series stopped until Abbott & Costello "resurrected" it again over 10 years later in their monster comedies.
It's obvious to see why: it had become as plodding, asphyxiating, lame and predictable as the Mummy himself!
