Review of The Miracle of Bern (2003) by Private U — 15 Jun 2008
It's always hard to make a movie about football. The sports is not easy to depict on film, the live excitement hardly ever reproducable. Yet Wortmann manages to do that with ease and by presenting the 1954 World Cup heroes from Germany with a human touch and by introducing a little, fictitious boy that holds the (rather cheesy) storyline together.
Still, the makers put much effort into recreating the spirit of the Fifties and the casting was done with a hunch for detail. But what I miss most... They could've shown more football from that tournament.
