Review of The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by Max S — 30 Nov 2009
An incredible piece of film, not only for the haunting noir story, but the stunning cinematography, possibly roger deakin's greatest achievements yet. the coen's have made easily one of the best films of the decade, not to mention a personal triumph for them - (it easily tops my list of coen movies, possibly only matched by 'no country for old men.
') I am flabbergasted at the lack of awards this movie received - only ONE oscar nomination? (albeit a well-deserved onefor cinematography). its a quiet, reserved story with small bits of coen-type humor and devices that fit so perfectly with the style, yet it is so convincingly presented that you really forget you are watching a film at all.
