Review of The Majestic (2001) by Meredith M — 02 Oct 2007
Jim Carrey's best performance (of the ones I've seen--I'm sure others have been brilliant that I have not seen because the movies were rated R). He is completely believable as Pete/Luke. You really feel for him in everything he goes through, and you long so badly for him not to remember who he is.
I also like that he is cast opposite an actress who was not terribly well known. It helps you to not see his character as Jim Carrey playing some other guy. Their chemistry was amazing from ther first scene in the diner.
But I think my favorite thing was watching him grow closer to Harry (Martin Landau). The scene when he calls him "Dad" for the first time chokes me up every single time I watch it. The look on Carrey's face is astounding and beautiful.
*sigh* I could go on and on about this show, but I think you get the point!
