Review of The Long Memory (1953) by Neil O — 06 Jun 2009
Acclaimed British film noir filmed on the North Kent Marshes on the Thames Estuary and the dingy backstreets of Gravesend and starring John Mills as a wrongly convicted man who gets out of jail after 12 years determined to avenge himself on all those whose perjury framed him for murder.
The acting style is mostly taciturn underplaying, though Chandos is refreshingly sweaty in his role as the closeted crime boss and Mills is rock-solid throughout.
