Review of The Long Day Closes (1992) by David R — 04 Oct 2009
Another great Terence Davies film with very similar subject matter to his recent documentary Of Night in the City (the church, cinema, Liverpool, growing up) but the style is quite different. The film sort of floats along like a dream and doesn't seem to progress anywhere but is engrossing all the same.
Like the sequence where church pews, cinema seats and classroom seats and edited together and the use of the sound (but interestingly not the pictures) of films like The Magnificent Ambersons and The LadyKillers.
